Berlin- Jewish Museum

The Jewish Museum

This one of a kind building, designed by Daniel Libeskind, is indefinitely one of a kind. It was designed to showcase the social, political, and cultural history of the Jewish citizens in Germany. Filled with stories and memories of the Jews, this is a place I cannot wait to visit. The disorientating design of the building is representative of the upheaval the Jews faced in the years of the Holocaust. The creation of the museum was the first time that the effects of the Holocaust were represented in postwar Germany.

Throughout history it has appeared that the Jews have not had much of a voice. This historic museum is giving many tortured Jews a voice and a memory for everyone to experience and remember. I imagine this will be a very emotional and captivating experience to view all of the memorabilia that help make up the German and Jewish history of Germany. The building's footprint is a ripped-apart Star of David.
The museum uses art and artifacts that embody the diversity of the complete history of Jewish experience. The mission statement of the museum states that they strive to be a source of inspiration and shared human values for people of all religious and cultural background while serving as a special touchstone of identify for Jewish people.
